How It Works

Navigation

GPS track files are utilized for the liaisons, paper road books are utilized for the special stages.

Each bike must have a GPS unit capable of utilizing track files and creating track files.  GPS files are distributed the night before that have important waypoints (Fuel, Bivouac, etc) along with track files for the next day’s liaisons.  At the end of each day, competitors are top hand in their GPS file so the organization can confirm the intended route was followed.  Failure to follow the route (liaisons and specials) will result in a “non finish”.

Road books will distributed the night before to each competitor.  The road books are standard rally size and will be provided in single sheets that will require taping.  CAP headings are not used.  Mileage is in Kilometers.  The road books are being created using Rally Navigator who have an excellent write up on how to use and prepare a road book LINK

Safety

Each competitor is responsible for his or her own safety, waiver forms will be signed to this effect.

Each competitor must have an activated SPOT tracker that is set up at least 30 days before the event.  The organizers will link the SPOT trackers on a shared web page for families and friends to follow along with.  The usage of these satellite trackers is for the competitor’s safety along with a means for the organization to keep track of everyone for safety and logistical reasons.  Failure to not activate your SPOT tracker means instant disqualification.

The organization will have a sweep crew for each special stage (if required).

Any competitor who stops to help another competitor who is injured is automatically considered as finishing that stage and other stages missed as a result.  We highly encourage helping your fellow competitors, in this manner the only competitor who could be left out on the special by him or herself would be the one travelling last.

Each competitor is will be provided with cell numbers of the organization staff and in turn is required to provide their cell number.  If a competitor gets hurt a call to the org is required asap.

A truck and atv will be at the beginning and or end of each stage that will be used if assistance is required.

As this is not a race and is held on public roads and trails, all competitors will obey all roads laws and will ride accordingly.  Going race speeds is not required to finish each stage in time, proper navigation is.

Bivouac Information and Support Crews

There will be one bivouac for the rally.  It is located at a campground (camp fees are included in your entry fee).

Tents or campers are allowed.  All competitors and support staff must spend each night in the bivouac.

Competitors are allowed to have a support crew.  Support crews will be provided GPS waypoints for each day.  The first day they can view the prologue.  The second and third day they can be present at the beginning of each special stage.  No other assistance from support crews is allowed outside of the designated locations.

The last night a dinner is provided as a part of the entry fee (both support and competitors) and trophies will be presented to the competitors who finish.  Other meals are the responsibility of the competitors and support crews.

Special Stages

Competitors will check in and hand over their rider’s card upon checking into a starting paddock.  A mandatory 15 minute break is enforced at which point a competitor may begin the special stage.  There is a time cut off time for the beginning of each special stage.  Another 15 minute break is applied after each special before being released from the paddock.  Any competitor who doesn’t make the time is disqualified.  The times are set up so that a reasonable pace is adequate to finish each special stage and finish each liaison.  Breakdowns, unnecessary stops and or trouble navigating is likely to be what puts people behind the clock.

The special stages consist of a mix of gravel roads and off road trails.  There is no single track, the off road sections consists of atv trails and old unmaintained roads.  The terrain could be consider “light enduro” terrain, best suitable for a 250-700 cc motorcycle.

The distance per special section varies from 50 kilometers to 200 kilometers.

Special sections are navigated solely by road book.  A few tulips here and there will have gps co ordinates in case a competitor gets completely lost.  Cap headings are not used as the geography doesn’t require it (mostly forest roads and trails).

Liaisons

The liaisons are navigated on public roads that are a mix of paved and gravel.  The times for each are based on following the speed limits; any competitors found breaking any laws including speeding will be disqualified.  GPS track files are used to navigate the liaisons.
