Roaming Rally 2024 - Expedition

For 2024 we will be once again hosting the Roaming Rally.  12 years later and we are still enjoying hosting this event, meeting new people and seeing new parts of Canada.

This years rally is an expedition style, an 8 day overland trip on the West coast of Newfoundland.    We are aiming to have a half dozen +- trucks for this trip.  The goal of the trip is to see some cool remote places in an environment known for a rugged landscape, meet like minded people and enjoy a cold beer in the evenings.  We have done a few trips to this area over the years and believe we have put together what will be a great overlanding experience.  Trails along the coastline, an abandoned town, scenic view points and some touristy places along the way.

We will meet folks on June 5th in the town of Port Aux Basques.   This is where the ferry from Nova Scotia lands. 

The Route

The week will consist of a mix of paved and gravel roads with some light offroading thrown into the mix.   Will will travel up the west coast of the island which in of itself is quite remote, but we will explore some off the beaten paths along the way.  Camping will be a mix of established campgrounds and a few nights of wild camping.  A GPX file will be sent out prior to departure with the intended route for the week.  Ferry reservations and campground reservations are the responsibility of each participant, dates for these will be provided.  The route will be based around a relaxing pace, typically leaving each day around 9 or 10 am and getting to camp before dinner time.   There will be one location where we will spend two nights and have a rest day.  The route ends in Gros Morne National park for folks who want to spend some extra time there before they head home or extend their travels to the rest of the island.

Vehicles

Vehicles must be equipped for remote travel and be able to spend a couple of nights at a time camping off grid.  Decent all terrain tires, recovery gear, tire maintenance equipment, a full size spare, etc are required.  Not sure if your vehicle is suitable?  Get in touch and feel free to ask.
